Manchester United

I am too young for the Busby Babes, Best, Law and Charlton, I came to the scene in 1977 when I saw Man Utd scrawled on a park bench, having briefly supported West Brom and Spurs of all teams.

My first memory was the disappointment of the 1979 F.A. Cup Final when Manchester United brought the score back to 2-2 against Arsenal before the latter snuck a winner through Alan Sunderland.

A couple of F.A. Cups eventually came via Ron Atkinson, with the massive drought of not winning the League since the 60s ongoing.

It took the magic, after a slow start, of Fergie, aided by Cantona, and an incredible run of Premierships followed, crushing hated rivals Liverpool once and for all, with Cup Winners’ Cup, F.A. Cups, doubles, double doubles, the Treble, League Cups and two Champions’ Leagues, the Solksjær and Sheringham smash and grab against Bayern Munich being most memorable.

Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Keane, Van Nistlerooy, Schmeichel, Kanchelskis, Ronaldo all came and went, as eventually did Fergie himself.

Still in the wilderness of Moyes and LVG.

But there is hope…

Will it take the Special One?
